At the league AGM on February 9th there are a number of proposals for rule changes. You can find them all on the league web-site. Below are summaries of the proposals which most impact us.
1. Regional Divisions one and two to play 40 overs. Regional 3 to play 35.
2. No bowler to bowl more than one fifth of total overs This means 9 for 1s and 7 for 2s (if 35 overs approved).
3. Matches to start at 1pm (though there is a confusing bit about 1.30 in August).
I am happy to support proposals 2 and 3. I am not so sure about 35 overs for the 2s. We get a vote at the meeting so please let me know any thoughts.
Our winter nets start next week. We want to make them as beneficial to all players as possible. We sought guidance from Will who works in this area and proposals are:
– *people inform me in advance (by Tuesday) if they are coming to nets each week * – net groupings to be sent out on Wednesday with one person as organiser for each net – a good bowling length to be marked in each net and bowlers encouraged to use this to improve their bowling – batsmen to be encouraged to identify an improvement target (if they bring technology someone to film them batting) – in one net, from week 2 or 3, bowlers to operate in a pair for 15 minutes at a time to help with rhythm and to give more consistency for batsme
There will be a chance to discuss these changes in week one!
Cost £5 per week. £3 for students or unwaged!
The indoor team maintained their 100 percent record with a 6 wicket win over Burridge ‘B’. We bowled first and were consistent throughout: Mark bowled a maiden, a very rare feat indoors and Ed and Bob took a wicket each. Chris completed the attack with an economical spell. Pleasingly we only conceded 15 extras: a big improvement on some previous games. We passed Burridges 85-3 without losing a wicket: Ed scored 23* and Bob 8*. Burridge’s young team bowled 12 wides and 3 no balls, conceding 56 extras in total!
We play next on February 12th when we may need some playing or scoring support due to 3 from the squad and myself all being away.
There are a couple of changes to the second team fixtures. We now play Thruxton at home on July 1st (Winterslow 2nds have withdrawn. Consequently there is no game on August 12th. At least this saves a long trip since we were due to play Thruxton away.
For the 2017 season we are looking to get new kit, as it has been a long time since last our last update. Here is the design proposed by Kev Allen.
We hope shirts will sell for about £20, and we are also looking at sweaters and caps. Any thoughts and feedback are welcome.
Our next fixture is on Sunday January 8th at 5.15 at Fleming Park. Our opponents are Burridge B, who were promoted with us last season. The team is:
Bob Kinnear, Ed Hardwicke, Chris Hillier, Graham Baker, Mark Lawless and Ludo Kowalewski
Let’s hope we can maintain our 100% record in the league.
