Indoor Team Win League

Indoor Team Win League

Last night the indoor team played unbeaten Cooper Vision needing a victory
to overtake them and win the second division. We batted first and everyone
contributed to an impressive 155 for 2 giving maximum batting points. Bob
and Prath both retired having reached 25 and Shiv was not out on 22 at the
end. We bowled and fielded excellently to get Cooper Vision out for 81
giving us victory by 74 runs. Mark took 2 for 10 in his 2 over spell,
outstanding figures indoors. So Travellers are champions again and with 2
successive promotions we will be in Division 1 next season. Well done all!

Second Team Captaincy

by Ian Burrows 0 Comments

There is a change of captain for the second team in the forthcoming season.
Malcolm Phillips has decided that his ongoing injury problems mean that
retiring from playing cricket is the sensible choice. He has played for us
for many seasons and for the past few years skippered the seconds. we will
miss his runs, wickets and leadership.
I am pleased to let you all know that Kev Sims has agreed to become the new
second team skipper. He was the unanimous recommendation of committee
members and is looking forward to the challenge.

New Kit and sponsor

by Ian Burrows 0 Comments

One decision of the working party formed to secure the future of the club
was that we needed to offer players new team branded kit. This will ensure
we look like a team when we go on the field and hopefully will enhance
performance! The kit is now being ordered in time for the season and I am
pleased to announce that the name on the shirts will in fact be a charity
which is dear to all players who have been at the club for a while: The
Hannah Memorial Academy. This is a charity set up in memory of Hannah
Foster, whose father Trevor played for the club for many years. Hannah was
tragically murdered in 2003 and the charity has a fascinating story which
you can read on the web-site: www.hannahmemorialacademy.org. It runs a
school for poor children in the Darjeeling area of India.

Trevor and his wife Hilary are fully supportive of this move. The
arrangement involves generous donations to the club and charity from a
couple of players. I hope we will as a club raise more money during this
and future seasons.

Indoor Defeat

by Ian Burrows 0 Comments

The indoor team suffered their first league defeat in 2 seasons yesterday.
We managed 135 for 2 against Locks Heath with Bob, Chris and Prath all
reaching the retirement score of 25. In the field everyone bowled a little
below par and Locks Heath batted well to pass our score for the loss of 4
wickets. One win in our final 2 games would still clinch promotion.
