Close defeat for 1s

On wet a windy day we were invited to bat on a soft spongy wicket. We lost
Febin early on before the rain finally forced a pause in play for 42
minutes. Ed and Abhijit both batted brilliantly on a difficult wicket to
score 69* & 68 respectively. Jack came in to give it a biff at the end
scoring 22 with a massive six into the wind. We finished on 175-3 which on
the wicket was an excellent score.

Due to the rain delay Farley had to chase 140 off 31 overs. Ian and Matt
opened up keeping the openers restricted. Dropped catches were our downfall
as 4+ catches went down. Chris came on to keep the runs tight leaving c. 7
runs per over needed in the last 10 overs. As wickets fell at one end we
were on top but one of their batsmen stepped up to the plate combining
nudging and nurdling with some lusty blows. Peter bowled the last over with
9 runs needed which proved to not be enough. Excellent game of cricket
played in awful conditions, plenty of positives to take into Oiltown next
