First win for 1s

Batting first Fawley had a steady start. Ian and Matt kept things tight to
start with. Our first breakthrough was in 12th over when Jack stumped their
opening bat on Roshan’s bowl. Soon they lost 4 more wickets while scoring
the next 26 runs. Score at this stage was 52 for 5. Their only resistance
came from No 4 who played some nice shots and scored a good 35 despite
injuries. Ian finished his brilliant spell of 10 overs by giving away only
1 run in his last 5 overs which included 4 maidens. Roshan, Bill and Chris
built upon the good start by keeping runs low and regularly taking
wickets. They got 4,2 and 3 wickets respectively. Fawley’s innings finally
came to an end at 114 Runs.

Chasing a modest score, we lost wickets quickly with our 1st, 2nd and 3rd
bats back in the pavilion by the 9th over. Score at this stage was 27 for
3. Roshan and Ed stabilised the innings for a bit and just when things were
looking good Ed unfortunately was run out when their bowler deflected the
ball on to stumps while trying to stop a straight drive. Roshan followed
his good bowling with some good batting and continued to score runs only to
be given run out at a crucial stage in the match. He scored 28. We lost our
9th wicket for 99 needing another 16 runs on the last wicket. Chris playing
a sensible innings along with Ian managed to get us through for our first
win of the season.
