Home win for 2nd XI

Kev Sims’s Travellers 2nd XI gained their third win of the season from 4 on Saturday against a good Shrewton 3rd XI team.

After losing the toss and being put into bat the early wicket of Clive (I’ve never been in a winning team for Travellers) Nicholls was lost in the first over giving way to the outside edge to the wicket keeper, this made way for Graham Baker to enter the arena. His forceful stoke play soon came forward and runs flowed from his bat reaching his fifty before Kev Sims’s shots reached the edge of the square. The score moved on well until Kev was superbly caught in the covers leaving Graham to soldier on. Wickets then began to fall fairly regularly including Graham who had moved onto a magnificent 102 before a ball staying low caught him out. The batting was then left to Prath (keep running Peter) Salaskar who chipped in with an undefeated 51. Travellers ended their innings on 216 for 9.

Shrewton started their innings promisingly but good tight bowling from Prath ( I’m in Manchester next week!) Salaskar and the ever solid Lee (get in there) Fitzpatrick kept the runs down and wickets falling. Excellent support bowling from Shiv Banerjee,  Steve (I’m 50 now) Noton and special mention for Bob (2 hands) Kinnear gaining another 5 for 28  had Shrewton all out for 141. Two turning points in the innings was an excellent run out by Kev (I’m having the last chicken nugget) Sims to break up what could have progressed to be a winning partnership and an out field catch by Kev Allen to dismiss Shrewton’s top scorer.

Travellers 2nd XI now move on to next week when we play away to table topping Dinton 2nd XI
