Second team have a good win

Travellers 2nd XI keep the pressure on the teams above with a well deserved
away win at Trojans.

Kev Sims’s 2nd XI took the game to a young Trojans 3rd XI by winning the
toss and electing to field on an overcast afternoon at Hardmoor sports
ground.
The new ball was given to a returning Will Lawless (10 overs 2 for 44) and
ever present Lee Fitzpatrick (7 overs 0 for 41); both bowled well against a
frustrating opening pair that quickly put runs on the board on a small and
quick outfield. Will eventually breaking the partnership at 85 in the 17th
over. At this point a score of 230 plus was looking on the cards, however
very tight bowling between Bill Stroud (10 overs 3 for 31), Steve Noton (7
overs 1 for 23) and Dave Allen (8 overs 3 for 38) pinned Trojans back,
catches were sticking, 6 in total, the best of which was a running catch
made by Richard Thorpe-Manley. A late burst from the Trojans lower order
after a miscalculation on Bill’s overs left Trojans on 196 for 9 at the
halfway point.
Travellers took up the run chase with openers Richard Thorpe-Manley and
Clive Nicholls for the whole of 9 balls before Richard had to retire hurt
on 1, he has now been diagnosed with a torn calf muscle, rest up Richard.
Kev Sims and Clive continued the challenge putting on 46 before Clive was
dismissed for 24, Dave Allen visited the crease briefly, use your bat next
time Dave, LBW again!!
Will Lawless joined Kev at the crease, these two put on 61 with some
dominant stroke play before Kev was caught leg before on 65. 112 for 3 in
22 overs was now looking promising. Another brief visit for Kev Allen (3)
left the Travellers ship rocking but this was soon shored up by Bill Stroud
and Will with some sensible batting taking Travellers to within 30 before
Bill played onto his own wickets for 12. Liam Ridout joined Will to ease
Travellers to victory in the 38th over, Will finishing again undefeated on
68 with Liam not out 7.
Travellers 196 for 5 beating Trojans by 5 wickets, the two’s now move up to
3rd in the league with one result still to come in for the weekend.

Next game, Home V Calmore Sports 4ths Saturday 22nd July 1pm start
More of the same team spirit.
