Hursley Park IV vs Southampton Travellers II

Having won the toss, Hursley elected to bowl. Simon Allen and Clive
Nicholls got off to a reasonable start before Clive was bowled in the 3rd
over. Kev Sims help steady the ship with Simon, moving the score along to
56 before Kev got bowled by a young Hursley spinner. Graham Baker up next
and once settled scored steadily against the middle order bowlers. Simon
also gained confidence with a range of scoring shots including 6 fours.
Simon was eventually caught from a fine edge for 44 runs. With the score on
88-3, Kev Allen stepped up and made a hundred partnership with Graham who
was eventually bowled for 69. Shane Smith came in for the final few balls
to take the score to 189-4. Kevin finished 34 not out.

Jacob Samuel and Jack Cox opened but we had to wait till the 10th over for
a wicket. First wicket for Jack on his long awaited comeback! Jack bowled
out with figures on 8-2-28-1. Shane Smith bowled after Jacob’s spell and
bowled economically while Steve Noton started from the other end. After a
loose first over Steve managed to find some rhythm but the batsmen were set
and scoring steadily. The opening bat was eventually out for 50, stumped
off a leg side delivery from Steve. With the score on 111-2 this turned out
to be the turning point. The No. 3 Hursley batsman was still scoring well
but was starting to look tired after running many singles. The No. 4
batsman never looked like hanging around and was soon bowled by a ball that
kept low off Steve’s bowling. Next up the Hursley skipper looked very
strong and scored well. Hursley looking favourites until the No. 3 bat was
caught by Jack off Steve’s bowling. The wickets fell regularly with the
Hursley skipper running out of partners. Kev Sims was brought in to bowl
and took 2 quick wickets including the Hursley skipper. Jacob came back on
and bowled well to tie up the batsmen. Last over and 14 required for the
Hursley win. Another great over from Jacob limiting the scoring to just 3
runs. Travs win by 10 runs with 10 men on a very hot sunny day.
