One’s in another tight finish

The much changed first team played Stockbridge at a cloudy and at times
drizzly Lordshill yesterday. We won the toss and batted but struggled
against good bowling. Our total of 137 depended greatly on Shiv’s
outstanding 71 in which. apart from one chance, he played almost
flawlessly, judging expertly when to attack and when to defend. Support
came from Kev Sims with a very corect 16 and John Denham in a stand of
close to 50 (no detail in scorebook) before Matt and Ian added 18 at the
end to reach a final total of 137-9.

We needed a repeat of previous tight bowling when defending a low score and
despite a few alarms were not disappointed, winning by 8 runs. Wickets were
shared out with Shiv taking 3, Hars 2, in an outstanding spell, and Matt,
Jinson and Ian one each, with Matt as usual having little luck as he beat
the bat many times. The fielding was good with excellent catches from Kev
at slip and Jacob, fielding as sub for the unwell Jack, at mid-on.There was
also an important run out between Febin and John which resulted in the
stumps flattened along with our keeper as he collided with the desperate
batsman. The final wicket fell to Shiv’s final ball to our delight and the
opposition’s disappointment.

Many thanks to Jinson and Jithin who made their debuts for us and ensured
we had a decent 11 with a lot of players away. Thanks also to Nigel for
calm umpiring and Jacob for volunteering to field after already playing in
the 2s disappointing away game.
