Great effort by 9 man second team.
A hot day greeted us at Andover CC and with 9 players, winning the toss
was highly desirable and for once we did! The openers Simon Allen and Sims
both fell to LBWs in the 2nd and 4th overs. Dave Allen came in at 3 and
continued his run of form with careful batting. Smith made a quick 11
before being given out LBW in the 9th over. Leigh Sign looked very good
scoring quickly before gambling his running speed against the wicket
keepers arm…run out for 15! Jordan Payne and Allen batted really well
taking the score to 102-5, Allen out for another LBW. Payne motored to 31
with supporting roles from Banerjee and Cox (both out for 5). Noton again
not out for 0. Pretty good for 9 men! Andover needing 128 to win.
Banerjee and Smith opened the bowling and the 1st wicket fell in the 5th
over to a fine edge from Banerjee. Smith was soon among the wickets in the
next over. Andover continued to score steadily despite Cox and Noton coming
into the attack. The next wickets came in Notons’ 5th and 7th overs. (I’d
tell you what the score was at this point if Andover had bothered to fill
out the book properly!) Noton ended his spell with a respectable 8-0-27-2
with Banerjee the pick of the remaining bowlers (8-0-33-2). Dave Allen
bowled a couple of steady overs but with the score ticking along, the
result was inevitable. Great batting and bowling performance from the 9
Travellers despite the heat and the gaps in the field.
