First team continue progress up table
The early start did not interfere with our good run of results this season.
A weakened Bramshaw second team put us into bat and we scored an impressive
245 for 7 before declaring with just under 5 overs to go. Captain Ed had
been considering this in order to ensure we were finished in time for the
football but there was no choice when 3 quick wickets fell and no one was
anywhere near ready to go in next. The highlight of the innings was a
powerful 142 not out from Abhijit who took advantage of a couple of drops
before he reached 50 to play an impressive innings. Some of the sixes were
huge, including one clearing the high fence to the school and another
landing on the back corner of the clubhouse roof. He was well supported by
Graham (41) in a century stand for the 5th wicket. Earlier Ed, Febin and
Derek had all got going then got out. The pitch, as last week, was not
totally to be trusted!
When Bramshaw batted their inexperience was obvious and they lost wickets
steadily until a flourish from more experienced players lower down. We used
8 bowlers (Bill for just one ball with an arm strain) and wickets were
shared by Ian (4), Lee and Matt (2 each) and the 2 Shivs (1 each). There
were excellent catches by Ed, Abhijit and Derek and a sharp stumping from
We won by 137 runs with maximum points and were finished in good time to
enjoy the football upstairs.
