First team back to winning ways

The first team travelled to Winton to discover the strangest looking pitch
we have seen for a long time with abundant holes and cracks. Considering
this it played not too badly though the bounce was very unpredictable. Shiv
won the toss and given the pitch elected to bowl. After a 50 run opening
stand the jury was out on whether this had been the right call. Once Shiv B
got the first wicket however wickets fell steadily against our varied
attack. The highlight was a brilliant diving catch, by the nearly asleep
Abhijit, to dismiss the opposition’s best player, also off Shiv B. Shiv C
ended with 4 wickets, Ian and Shiv B with 2 each while Matt and Abhijit had
one each. Matt bowled with little luck, beating the bat regularly. There
were two catches for Kev S, nursing his injured finger, the second a very
sharp one.

When we batted Febin fell early to a great delivery before Kev S joined
Jack Corbett to steady the ship. Kev made 10 before falling to an
outstanding gully catch and Shane followed soon after. This brought the
awakening Abhijit to the crease and he put on exactly 100 with Jack,
finishing with 2 trademark big sixes. When Abhijit was out for 59 sixteen
runs were still needed and Shiv joined Jack, who ended on an impressive 58
not out, to close out the win. This was an excellent victory and pushes the
first team closer to a highest ever end of season league position.

Scores: Winton 150 all out; Travellers 151-4
