Second team finish with a win
The final game of the season was blessed with warm sunshine and a full
team of 11 players. The plan was to bowl first after the recent wet
weather but Michelmersh & Timsbury won the toss and put us in to bat.
The first wicket fell in the 2nd over, Leigh Sign bowled for 0 despite
his determination to get some runs. Simon Allen joined Kev Allen and
they batted steadily to take the score into the 20s. Kev Allen was out
caught in the 7th over for 17. Clive Nicholls made good progress with
Simon Allen with both batsmen gaining in confidence and keeping the run
rate up. The batting partnership was eventually broken for 79 when
Nicholls was bowled for 34 in the 24th over. Dave Allen made a brief
appearance before departing the field LBW for 1 run. Shane Smith and
Shiv Banerjee did slightly better both bowled by the spin of Karimi for
4 and 6 respectively. Lee Fitzpatrick played some nice shots for his 13.
Tony Robins, back in the side after injury, failed to tee off when he
was caught off his first ball faced. Bob Kinnear and Steve Noton ended
the innings not out adding 5 and 9 respectively.
Following possibly the best tea of the season, Shiv Banerjee struck gold
with his first ball dispatching the M&T skipper with a plum LBW. Lee
Fitzpatrick took the next 2 wickets in the 4th and 6th overs with the
score now on 17-3. Kinnear replaced Banerjee and the 4th wicket went to
a simple run out. Kinnear tempted the batsmen with his full deliveries
and soon had another 3 wickets to his name, 60-7 at this point. The
remaining batsmen looked more confident but succumbed to Fitzpatrick’s
lavish swing bowling. The final batsman was bowled for 0 off a straight
Banerjee delivery. Banerjee, Fitzpatrick and Kinnear finished with 2, 4
and 3 wickets respectively and were ably supported by Shane Smith
(3-2-2-0) and Steve Noton (4-0-10-0).
A 75 run victory and a fabulous end to the season.
