Second Team finally play: and win!

First game of the season for Southampton Travellers II against Lyndhurst
II. Both teams turned out 10 men so it was set to be an even contest.
Travellers won the toss and elected to bowl first. Stroud And Cox opened
the bowling and Stroud was soon rewarded with the wicket of the #1 batsman
out for 1 run. Smith replaced Stroud and very quickly found a good line and
length that earned him impressive figures of 8-1-28-2. Cox held up the
Oasis end to complete his spell with 8-1-28-0. Noton replaced Cox and
bowled well taking 3 wickets in his 8 overs (8-0-20-3). Payne (4-0-24-0)
and Allen (Dave) bowled 4 overs a piece with Allen (4-0-26-1) taking the
vital wicket of a big hitting middle order batsmen. Stroud finished his
spell with an excellent (8-2-22-2) leaving Travs needing 154 to win.

Surridge and Payne started steadily with Payne misjudging a ball that came
in off the seam and hit the off stump – bowled for 6. Cox was looking
comfortable until he was bowled for 16. Allen D was greeted by an absolute
peach of a first ball which he unfortunately snicked straight into the
keepers gloves. Smith was also greeted by a very sharp delivery which he
just about managed to fend off. Three quick wickets didn’t faze Surridge
and Smith and their confidence grew as the strike bowlers finished their
spells. The runs flowed freely with numerous boundaries and the victory
came in the 34th over. Smith ended on 25 not out and Surridge with a
fantastic 88 not out. Travs win by 7 wickets.

Excellent team performance!

Amazingly we are not bottom of the league – in fact we are 14th out of 17!
