Disappointing defeat for 1st team

The 1s travelled to Paultons 2nds hoping for a win against potential
promotion rivals. We fielded first and Paultons batted well, making a very
good start and building on it despite a steady fall of wickets to total 219
for 9. Chris bowled outstandingly to take 3-12 and he was well supported by
Prashant who took 2 wickets in an economical spell. There were 3 wickets
for Irfan and 1 for Matt. Prath returned to keeping after many years and
did a good job.
Our batting as too often depended too much on Abhijit. Paultons bowling was
mainly accurate but not threatening enough over all to explain our steady
loss of wickets. When Abhijit was controversially run out for another 50 we
were unable to push on for victory. We were all out for 181.
The controversy over the run out was that the fielder who threw the ball in
was thought by spectators to have touched the rope as he picked up the
ball. The fielder did not think he had and understandably the umpires felt
they had to take his word.
Lets hope for a return to form against Shrewton 2nds next week.
