First team scrape to narrow victory

by Ian Burrows 0 Comments

The first team played at home to Ashurst and Lyndhurst on Saturday. We lost
the toss and were in the field. We got off to a great start with Prashant
taking 2 wickets in the first over of the match. Four Lyndhurst players
reached double figures but 19 was top score and they were all out for 91.
We bowled well on a helpful pitch with Chris and Shiv each taking 3 wickets
and Irfan and Matt one each to add to Prashant’s early successes.
We hoped to make light work of the low target even without this season’s
main run corer Abhijit. It was not to be.Jithin with 15 and Imad with top
score of 25 got us half way to our target but after that only Shiv managed
double figures. When the 9th wicket fell we still needed 3 runs to win.
Irfan managed a single and then Chris hit a rare loose ball for 4 to get us
over the line. The opposition bowlers, especially the spinners had been
excellent but we did lack patience at times in chasing down our low target.
One highlight of the afternoon was having our scorebook looked after by Vic
Isaacs, a friend of umpire Nigel, who some of you will know was Hampshire’s
scorer for many years. We hope to welcome him back again.
